Chicken Avocado Burgers

Are you craving a juicy, meaty burger with all of the delicious toppings that will drip down the side of your mouth when you take a bite? I know I am. Mmmmm, burgers, who can resist them? But how about a healthier version that will still satisfy your craving but be gentle to your waist?

Ground chicken meat mixed in with some healthy and creamy avocado and the spices will make this one of the best burgers you ever had; and without the guilt or heaviness. Plus, this is a great way to sneak in some veggies for your kids.

Chicken is low in fat and high in protein and taste! Add in some creamy, good-for-you-fat avocado and you will never have another dry, tasteless burger again. Ever!

Everywhere you read about food and meat you hear low fat, vegetarian, vegan, heart healthy. But many low fat foods are so dry and tasteless that you might as well eat cardboard. Well, not that you would, just making a point.

These are so simple to prepare and make under 30 minutes from start to finish, maybe less. Now that is quicker than take out. And you know exactly what ingredients you are consuming. Even better. If you want to cut back on your carbs, just omit the bun and serve it with a salad. Still delicious and satisfying and juicy.

So next time you are craving a burger, try some ground chicken instead. You may never go back to beef. But as always, Enjoy!

Chicken Avocado Burgers

Ingredients: Serves 4

  • 1 pound ground chicken
  • 1 large ripe avocado, peeled and mashed gently
  • 1 large clove garlic, peeled and chopped
  • 1 teaspoon dry red chili seeds (optional for a little heat) or 1/2 teaspoon cracked black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 cup Panko bread crumbs
  • 4 Brioche buns, sliced in half
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil; plus 1 additional for drizzling on burgers
Preparation:
In a large bowl, place the ground chicken, avocado, garlic, pepper, oregano, salt and bread crumbs and gently combine. Divide into 4 equal sections and shape into desired size patties. Grill inside or out over a medium heat for 6 minutes on each side.
While the patties are grilling, brush the sliced buns on the inside cut side with the olive oil and place on grill. Grill until toasted.
In the last 1 minute of grilling, drizzle the burgers with 1 tablespoon olive oil.
Serve the burgers with some fresh sliced tomatoes, grilled red onions, lettuce, ketchup or whatever your favorite condiments are. Enjoy!
