Tofu is a nice, soy based protein alternative to eating meat. It has been said that it may reduce the risk of developing certain cancers, help lower cholesterol, prevent artheriosclerosis and help with hot flashes. Tofu is very low in Cholesterol and Sodium. It is also a good source of Protein, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Copper and Selenium, and a very good source of Calcium and Manganese.
Tofu is easily available in all the grocery stores, usually in the produce isle. Though it does not have any real taste by itself, it blends well with any flavor you mix it with. So, go ahead and prepare this teriyaki tofu recipe and enjoy its many health benefits.
Baked Teriyaki Tofu
Ingredients: Serves 2
- 1/8 cup soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon honey
- 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
- 1 clove crushed garlic
- 1/4 teaspoon minced ginger
- 1/2 (14 oz) package extra-firm tofu, drained and dried on paper towels. Cut into 12 slices.
Preparation:
In a medium shallow dish, mix all ingredients, except the tofu together. Add tofu and let soak in sauce for 1 hour. Carefully remove the tofu (reserve excess sauce) and place on foil lined baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
Remove the baking sheet from the oven and carefully flip the tofu over. Increase heat to 425 degrees. Pour remaining sauce over the tofu and bake again for 5-7 minutes, or until the tofu is golden brown and firm to the touch.
